Welcome.
The Peace of Wild Things contains journal-like narratives of my personal journey in recovery and struggle with mental health challenges.
I have chosen to be present here as myself, rather than remain anonymous. That said, I will protect the anonymity of anyone who I have contact with through this work.
I’ve taken to answering daily writing prompts just to force myself to produce words.
I hope to be able to expand my content to include short stories, poetry, and other whimsical creations when I’m feeling inspired.
My life is simple. I focus on my recovery, try to be useful to others, and to do no harm (ahimsa). I feel most connected to all life when I am immersed in nature. I used to work in a creative profession, then left that industry to heal addiction. I tend to excel at where I put my passion, and it just so happened I was very passionate about drinking and for far too long!
In early recovery, I gave university a go and enjoyed my studies. I focused on political ecology and decolonization.
I love writing, chess, camping, and all animals (especially cats).
This blog is named after my favourite poem by Wendell Berry. It can be found here.
Yours, in the journey to wellness,
Eric
