photo reel 1: sun, salt, and ice (details)

While visiting Peggy’s Cove on a mild spring day, prepared to take some shots of the lighthouse and the rocky shoreline, I noticed that the sun was melting the ice that had settled in the pools along the rocks. I decided to change lenses, popped in my macro, and took some hand-held details of the process.

This set of photos, in an abstract way, speaks to my struggles with mental health challenges. Isolation and alienation has a freezing effect on depression, and sometimes it takes force from beyond my own resources to start the melting.

The light of the sun reaches my true self, gradually warming the ice into water, and parts of me start to emerge from the grip of winter’s weight.
