Secular recovery, some words.

In recovery, I am ambivalent, perhaps indifferent, to the matter of whether or not God exists.

If the gift of recovery is available only to believers, and therefore unattainable to non-believers, does this not make for a punishing and cruel God?

More importantly, does it not also place limits on God, since God’s grace is contingent entirely upon a person’s choice (to believe)?

I do not accept a cruel God, and a limited God is a silly proposition.

I do accept a God which grants the gift of recovery to any who seek it, without regard to whether or not they believe in or reach for God.

For this reason, my recovery is secular, so I can focus on getting well instead of on matters of theology.
